RiverHawks Rally for Second

THACKERVILLE, Okla. --- Northeastern State (OK) rallied for the second lowest score of the day and vaulted from fifth to finish second in the Lone Star Women Golf Championship at WinStar Golf Course on Tuesday.
Aided by Katie Miller's two-under-par 70, the RiverHawks posted a final round 295 to end the 36-hole tournament with a 606. The 295 broke a school record for lowest tournament round, which had been a 299 set back in 2006.
Tarleton State, ranked first in the region, fired a 9-over-par 585 to claim its second consecutive women's title and third overall. Central Oklahoma's Cassy Knight claimed medalist honors with a one-under 143. She won the honor after Angelo State's Raelyn Smith had a double-bogey seven on the par-5, No. 18. Smith held a slim one-shot advantage heading into the final hole.
Miller narrowly missed making the All-Tournament team, ending the event at four-over. Stephanie Bird's 71 also helped the RiverHawks' comeback, while Paola Torres had a steady pair of 77s in the tournament.
Northeastern State must play a waiting game to determine if it will make the Women's Super Regional next month. Those should be released by the NCAA later this week.
