RiverHawks to Battle Southwestern State
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - Several Northeastern State RiverHawks established individual career and season high performances in the win over Cameron University Wednesday night in Lawton in the Lone Star Conference North Division opener for both clubs.
The RiverHawks walked away with a 73-49 victory over the Aggies and now face a struggling Southwestern State club Saturday afternoon. The Lady Bulldogs are 1-13 for the year. However, the first win of the season came Wednesday night against North Division foe Texas A&M-Commerce 87-72 with Jenna Sprague, 6-1 senior forward, leading the way with 26 points and 12 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.
Southwestern State will come into Jack Dobbins Field House Saturday for the 2 p.m. encounter with a new hope, but it will face a determined RiverHawks which has posted an impressive 12-4 overall mark and 1-0 in North Division play.
Freshman Taylor Lewis, junior Megan Fraley and sophomore Kendra Dean established or tied personal bests against Cameron.
Lewis established career and season highs with a 12-point performance; Fraley, a junior college transfer from Northeastern A&M, scored a career and season high 11 points as a RiverHawk and Dean tied her season high point production with 12 points.
The trio will have give their best effort on Saturday as the Bulldogs are averaging 67.2 points a game, but are allowing the opposition 81.6 points.
Sprague is Southwestern's top point producer with a 10.7 scoring average, shooting 44.6 percent from the field and 34.8 percent from behind arc. She is shooting just 59.1 percent at the free throw line. Sprague is the Lady Bulldogs leading rebounder with a 5.9 average a game.
Natasha Brown follows Sprague in the Bulldogs' scoring with a 10.1 average. Brown is a 5-5 junior guard, who is shooting 35.6 points from the field and 38.5 points from behind the arc. Chelsey Dillon, 5-5 freshman guard, follows with a 9.6 average. Dillon is shooting 38 percent from the floor and 32.3 percent on 3-point shots.
Jasmine Webb continues to lead the RiverHawks in scoring with a 10.3 scoring average, followed by Alix Perkins at 8.9, Cristy Nitz 8.1, Jessica White 7.1 and Megan Fraley at 5.8.
Web is the RiverHawks top rebounder pulling down 5.3 a game, while blocking seven shots this season to trail Nitz by one who has 8 block shots.
The RiverHawks are the No.2 defensive club in the Lone Star Conference giving up just 54.5 points a game, while offensively they are scoring 62.6 points a game.
Following the Southwestern State game, the RiverHawks will play nationally ranked Southeastern State at Jack Dobbins Field House on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
