RiverHawks Sweep Southwestern in Season Finale

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Northeastern State swept Southwestern State 5-0 and 2-1 on two hitters by Lacee Craig and Cayce Coleman in the final games of the season for the RiverHawks at the NSU Softball Complex Sunday.

The RiverHawks end the 2010 season with an 18-34 overall record and 9-15 in Lone Star Conference play. Southwestern completes the year 25-27 and 6-18.

In the opener Craig went the distance in the circle striking out two and allowing no walks in posting her fourth win of the season. She pitched no-hit ball for the first three innings before giving up a single in the fourth. The Bulldogs' second hit came in the seventh on a single.

Craig was backed up by eight RiverHawk base hits, including two-run home run by Shelbi Bowin, her ninth of the season, in the sixth, and Kelsi Hilderbrandt's third homer of the year for NSU's four run explosion.

The RiverHawks took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a RBI bunt by Courtney Baker, who plated Ashley Rogers, who opened the frame with a double to right center.

In the second game Coleman won her 13th inside the circle, striking out one and walking one in going the distance. She gave up her two hits in the fourth inning a double and RBI single giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.

The RiverHawks tied the game in the sixth on a single by Lisa Ripperger scoring Jenny Collins, who reached base on a fielding error by the Bulldogs' short stop.

NSU got the win in the last of the seventh when Collins sent April Marsee home on a single to left field. Marsee pinched ran for Kylie Morton, who reached base on a Bulldog fielding error.
