RiverHawks Sweep Cameron

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. --    Northeastern State swept a doubleheader from Cameron University Wednesday afternoon at the NSU Softball Complex 3-1 and 4-3 in Lone Star Conference play.

The victories improve the RiverHawks to 9-23 for the season and 3-7 in LSC play. Cameron falls to 14-16 and 1-5 in league play.

In the opener Lacee Craig got the win in the circle, scattering 6 Aggie hits in going the distance as she improved to 2-10 in the circle. The RiverHawks backed her with 5 base hits, with Courtney Baker going 2-for-2 at the plate with 2 RBIs.

NSU took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Shelbi Bowin singled up the middle scoring Megan Heskett, who had walked in the inning.

Northeastern added to its total in the fourth with two runs, taking a 3-0 lead. Baker then doubled to left field knocking home Ashley Rogers and Kylie Morton. Morton and Rogers had both reached base on fielder’s choices earlier in the inning.

In the night cap Cayce Coleman scattered 8 Cameron hits, while striking out four and walking just 3 in picking up her 6th victory inside the circle as she is now 6-9 on the season. The RiverHawks pounded out 9 base hits with catcher Kelsi Hilderbrandt providing the fire power with a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, which included 2 RBIs.

Bowin also provided offensive punch for Northeastern State going 2-for-3 at the plate and 2 RBIs.

Cameron opened the game with a run in the top  of the first and added two more in the third to take a 3-0 lead, before the RiverHawks tied the game in its half of the third with a 3-run explosion.

In the third, Lisa Ripperger and Courtney Baker were walked and with two outs, Bowin doubled to right center field scoring both Ripperger and Baker. Hilderbrandt then singled up the middle to plate Bowin to tie the game at 3-all.

Coleman then held the Aggies scoreless the rest of the way before the RiverHawks won the game in the last of the seventh.

Heskett single past the shortstop and Coleman doubled down the right field line advancing Heskett to third base .Bowin was then intentionally walked to load the bases, but Hilderbrandt singled into left field scoring Heskett with the winning run.
