RiverHawks Fall to UCO
EDMOND, Okla. - University of Central Oklahoma quarterback Brandon Noohi threw for six touchdowns in leading the Bronchos to a 47-38 Lone Star Conference North Division victory over Northeastern State at Wantland Stadium Saturday afternoon.
The win kept the President's Cup in possession of the Bronchos for the second consecutive season and UCO improves to 4-7 on the year and 3-2 in North Division action. The RiverHawks close the season 2-9 and 2-3 in division play.
Noohi, who completed 20-of-33 passes for 306 yards, had touchdown passes of 9, 35, 28, and 32 yards to Ryan Gallimore. He also had TD tosses of 21 yards to Bryce Davis and 20 yards to Daniel Morrell .
The Bronchos rolled up 517 yards in total offense with 211 coming on the ground. Noohi was also the Bronchos leading ground gainer with 140 yards, including a 1-yard TD run in the third quarter.
Northeastern State quarterback Pat Cook was 19-of-35 for 194 yards and four touchdowns tosses. Cook threw TD passes of 9 yards to Kyle Beam with Trey McVay catching three more for 3, 8 and 11 yards.
McVay was the RiverHawks leading receiver with seven catches for 91 yards. LaRon Elmer led the ground attack with 90 yards as Northeastern State finished with 186 yards on the ground and 380 yards in total offense.
Northeastern led only one time and that came on the opening possession of the game. The RiverHawks drove 80 yards in 13 plays with Elmer scoring on a 10-yard run.
Central Oklahoma came right back to tie the game on Noohi's first of six touchdown passes, a 9-yard toss to Gallimore. Chris Robbs converted his first of five point-after-attempts.
Noohi then found Gallimore again for a 14-7 Bronchos lead at the 10:05 mark of the second quarter. Northeastern and UCO exchange touchdowns before the Bronchos took the lead for good 28-21 on a Noohi to Daniel Morrell 20-yard pass with 42 seconds left in the half.
The RiverHawks came no closer than five points the rest of the way, 35-30 with 14 minutes remaining in the game when McVay caught his second TD catch, this one for 8 yards.
