RiverHawks Split With Angelo State

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - Northeastern State split a doubleheader with visiting Angelo State Saturday in Lone Star Conference action at Rousey Field, winning the first game 10-8 and losing the nightcap 6-5.

Northeastern State is now 6-9 overall and 5-5 in Lone Star Conference play, while Angelo State is 10-7 and 5-5 in conference play.

In the opener the RiverHawks took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Taylor Clark hit a solo home run over the right field wall. The lead stood up until the third inning when the Rams struck for six runs on two hits and three RiverHawk errors. The big blow in the inning was Chris Adamson's three-run homer over the right field wall.

Angelo State added two more runs in the fourth for an 8-6 lead on three hits, before the RiverHawks scored four runs in their half of the fourth, cutting the Rams' lead to 8-5.

The RiverHawks needed just one hit, a RBI single by Chris Gallegos a RBI sacrifice fielder's choice by David Zavala and two Angelo State errors for the four NSU runs.

NSU then plated five runs in the sixth inning to get the victory.  Angel Hernandez blasted a 3-run homer over the right field wall that scored  Zavala, who singled to right center and Demetrius Terronez who had walked.

Cale Replogle then singled through the right side and Greg Jackson came in to pinch run for Replogle. Jackson then went to second on a passed ball by Rams' catcher Chris Adamson. Jerris Springfield then came in relief of Angelo starter Jeremy Tietze and he issued a walk to Eric McKinney. Gallegos singled to right scoring Jackson for a 9-8 Northeastern State lead.

The final RiverHawk run came when Taylor Clark flied out to centerfield that allowed McKinney to score from third after he had walked, advanced to third on Galllegos' single for the 10th NSU run.

Tyler Patterson got the win for NSU, his third of the season, going 6 1/3 innings, scattering 8 hits, striking out 7 and not walking a batter. Keith Head picked up the save, his first of the year.

The second game fell apart for NSU in the ninth inning when Angelo State scored six runs to get the win on five base hits and one error.

NSU took a 1-0 lead in the first when McKinney homered to left center, his second of the season. The RiverHawks made it 2-0 in the fourth on a single by McKinney to center field and scored on a RBI double to right field by Clark.

Northeastern State increased its lead to 5-0 with a three-run fifth. Replogle singled to right field that scored two and McKinney's sacrifice fly to right field added another run.

Keith Head (0-2) in relief of starter Andrew White took the loss.
