RiverHawks Pound Out 21 Hits in Win Over Southeastern

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- Northeastern State pounded out 21 base hits en route to a 17-4 win over Southeastern State in the nightcap of a doubleheader at Rousey Field Friday afternoon. The Savage Storm won the Lone Star Conference opener 7-4.
The split gives the RiverHawks a 5-6 record on the season and 4-2 in LSC play. Southeastern State is now 5-4 and 2-4.
Northeastern State battered seven Savage Storm pitchers in the second game with NSU's Chad Davidson perfect at the plate with four hits in four trips to the plate. Eric McKinney and Tyler Brewer pounded out three hits each, with McKinney just a home run away from hitting the cycle
Tyler Patterson got the win for the RiverHawks going six innings in the run-ruled contest (scheduled for nine), his second of the season. Patterson gave up 7 hits, walked just one and struck out four. Adam Hibdon pitched the seventh inning striking out one.
The RiverHawks pounded out eight extra base hits, three were for home runs, one each by Cale Replogle, Angel Hernandez, and Tyler Brewer.
The RiverHawks scored in the first three innings, scoring 2, 2 and 6 runs respectively for a 10-2 lead.
Hernandez homered to left field in the first inning scoring Cale Repogle for the 2-0 lead. In the second inning Chris Sprick hit a shot over the left field scoring Taylor Clark, after Clark singled giving the RiverHawks a 4-1 advantage. Southeastern scored in the top of the second on a Casy Gibson home run.
Southeastern made it 4-2 in the third before the RiverHawks exploded for six runs in their half of the third for a 10-2 lead. Replogle hit a three-run homer, scoring Noah Ringenberger, who was hit by a pitch, and Chad Davidson, who doubled to left field.
The RiverHawks then added five more runs the fourth and one each in the fifth and sixth. In the fourth NSU pounded out four hits with Ringenberger's base clearing 3-RBI double to left center field. In the fifth inning Tyler Brewer hit a solo homer.
McKinney opened the sixth with a triple to right center and scored on Tyler Brewer's single to right field.
Southeastern's Dan McKinney, who started for the Savage Storm took the loss, his first of the year. He gave up six hits in 1 1/3 on the mound, giving up four runs, all earned.
In the opener Southeastern struck for four runs in the first inning off NSU starter Michael Houser and the RiverHawks were never able to recover. Houser took the loss, his first of the year, in going five innings, striking out four and walking just one.
Northeastern scored twice in the fourth inning to cut the Southeastern lead, but the Savage Storm responded with a run in the top of the fifth for a 5-2 lead on a NSU throwing error. Southeastern then added two more runs in the sixth on a 2-run homer by Casey Gibson, his first of the season.
The two teams will resume their series Saturday with a doubleheader at Rousey Field beginning at noon.
