Savage Storm Take Two

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. --- Southeastern Oklahoma took advantage of timely hitting to sweep a Lone Star Conference baseball twinbill from Northeastern State on Saturday at Rousey Field.

The Savage Storm improved to 7-4 on the year and 4-4 in league play, while the RiverHawks fell to 8-5 and 4-4.

SOSU won the opener 6-2 with Jimmy Johnson going the distance for a complete game victory. SE scored four runs on five hits in the top of the first and that's all it needed.

Traling 5-0 after 2 1/2 innings, the RiverHawks plated a run in the third when Chad Davidson singled, moved to second on a wild pitch and later scored on Eric McKinney's single. The other Northeastern State tally came in the fifth on an RBI single from Chris Gallegos that scored Cale Replogle, who led off the inning with a double.

Andrew White took the loss, scattering 10 hits with five strikeouts. Five of his six runs were earned.

In the nightcap, Northeastern State carried a 2-0 lead into the eighth inning as Shay Colburn put together a nice outing on the mound. Colburn allowed six hits without a run through seven innings of work, but faltered in the SOSU eighth.

The Savage Storm began the inning with a walk and a double and Colburn was replaced by Chris Krebs. Krebs, who pitched to only one hitter, gave up a double to score one run to make it 2-1. But, Keith Head walked three hitters and hit another and SOSU scored four runs in the stanza to take the lead for good at 4-2.

Southeastern added an insurance run in the ninth for the final outcome.

Krebs suffered the loss for the RiverHawks, while Cullen Pryor, who tossed 3 1/3 innings of relief, picked up the victory.

Northeastern State will host Angelo State on Friday and Saturday as LSC play continues.
